A Taste of Oklahoma – Dec 2014

My husband and I really love to cook, but we also really love to eat out. There is a great selection of restaurants in Tulsa and our surrounding areas. We will go a few weeks at a time without eating out and then we may go a few times in one weekend. It just kind of varies.

During December, we had quite a bit going on so it seems like we did eat out more often. I also need to be better about taking pictures when we do eat out. I use to be really good, but then I started trying to leave my phone in my purse. I won’t lie, though, I like food pictures:)They aren’t always beautiful because daytime natural light isn’t always available, but I definitely think seeing actual pictures, no professional ones, can give one a sense of the food. Now that I’ve decided to do a food post each month, I’ll work to make the pictures a tad bit prettier:)

Also, side note, I have Celiac Disease, so I do have to eat gluten free. Luckily, I don’t have immediate sensitivity, gluten affects my skin, so I do occasionally have a bite.

Here are a few of the places we ate in December.

Upper Crust –  Upper Crust is at 91st & Yale. We’ve gone here quite a few times since it opened. I do think their gluten free pizza is really good, but in the future I’ll tell them I want it a bit more crisp. The last time it was a bit soft on bottom, but all the times before it was great! I’ve also found it’s not uncommon with gluten free crust to be on the softer side.

The last time we went, we went during lunch. Their Farmer’s Market Salad is amazing. I love the dressing on it. The “cookie pie” is out of this world and I so wish I could eat it! We got an appetizer special this day and it was asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with a balsamic glaze and watermelon and cantaloupe on the side. Different, but good! Brent got the “Grinder” and really liked it and as you can see, it was huge. The kiddos each got a small cheese pizza, which is the perfect size for them and it’s only $5 each.

Ridge Grill – Ridge Grill is at 101st & Mingo. We eat at Ridge Grill fairly often as we live relatively close, which is nice! It won’t take you long to realize that I love scallops. I’m pretty likely to getting them everywhere I go 😉 Ridge Grill has a great scallop dish. Brent got a lobster & steak special the last time we went, as pictured. Ridge Grill isn’t a big place, but they have a nice size menu as well as a great gluten free selection. We also like the porch area for dinning and just hanging out.

Smoke – Smoke on Cherry Street. This was only our second time at Smoke and we really enjoyed it both times. It’s also been open several years now. Again, I kind of forgot to take pictures of most of the things we got, but the night we went in December, we ordered the special. There were four in our party and several of us ate from it. I had the scallops, which were amazing. Overall, the portions were great for the price of the special. I also remember loving the brussels sprouts.

Bodean – Bodean is located at 51st & Harvard. We’ve been here quite a bit as it’s been here a long time. We recently went for a little birthday dinner for me. So, technically this was is January. I slacked on pictures because it was before I came up with the “Local Eats” post 😉 I got scallops, per usual, but they were a bit tough this time. They’ve been amazing all the other times. I got the cheese risotto and it did not disappoint. Brent got the oysters, which he loves there. They have several different types. We got a lamb appetizer as well as a shrimp cocktail. Both were really good. The friends we were with all enjoyed their meals as well. Bodean also has a market next to the restaurant, which I highly recommend!

Mahogany – Mahogany is located at 68th and Yale. We’ve also gone to Mahogany quite a bit over the years. We went this last week after dinner at Bodean. We just had after dinner drinks and the sweet gals at the bar sent me out chocolate cake which was amazing. I also had the chocolate martini, which I love there.

I’d love to hear restaurants you all have eaten lately!:)I’ll return at the end of the month with another local eats post!
