DIY: KNEE SLIT SKINNY JEANS

Knee Slit Skinny Jeans are all the rage. I LOVE them. They are cool, versatile and SO fun to wear. They really look GREAT dressed up or worn casual and they have been on my wish list for a while now. Recently, I tried on a pair with a hefty price tag. After thinking twice, I decided I CAN MAKE THESE and that’s just what I did.
March Main

Supplies Needed:
Skinny Jeans: I picked up a pair from my local Wal-Mart — No Boundaries Juniors Classic Skinny Jeans — $7.78
Sharp Scissors
Tape
Washer/Dryer

March 1

I began by first washing and drying the jeans. I recommend washing inside out to protect the color.
Now you are ready to get started.
Try your jeans on in front of a mirror and mark with tape where you want the slits to be. I chose to make mine just right above the knee.

March 3

Carefully take off the jeans — you don’t want to lose the tape — and lay on a flat surface.

Work with one leg at a time. Find the middle of your tape and pinch with your finger. Be sure you are only grabbing the top layer of the jean. You don’t want to cut through the backside. I do not have a fix for that — maybe cut offs?!?!

March 4 Next, take your scissors and make a small horizontal cut in the middle of the tape.

March 5Slide your scissors through the small opening and cut in one direction about 1 1/2″. (This can be just a starting point. If you decide to make the slit longer you still can. You can’t; however, make the slit smaller.) Then cut in the opposite direction another 1 1/2″. Remove your tape.

March 6At this time I would try on the jeans again to make sure you are happy with size of the openings. If you decide you want them bigger, remove the jeans, lay flat and cut slits to your desired width.

Now, this is where the magic happens. Wash and dry your jeans again to get the perfect frayed look to the slits.

VOILA! You now are the owner of a VERY cool and VERY affordable pair of knee slit jeans!

These jeans have become a staple in my wardrobe. Here are a few of my favorite outfits so far.
