Favorite Things Party

Favorite things parties are always one of my favorite annual parties to attend. I love that you get to leave with 3 different gifts and I, of course love spending time with people that I adore. I have been to quite a few favorite things parties over the years and this year I decided to host one!

Moms of Tulsa Favorite Things Party

There are multiple ways to throw a favorite things party but the version I like best is: each guest brings 3 of the same wrapped gifts (the host can pick the dollar limit/number of gifts and for this party I decided to put the item amount between $10-$15/per item). When everyone arrives at the party, each person will write their name 3 different times on 3 different sheets of paper and those papers will go into 3 different jars. Then, the guests will draw a name out of those same jars making sure they didn’t get their own.  Those are the people they will give their 3 gifts to. After the names are written, the gifts went under the tree and then it is time to mingle, eat and drink!

Everything is optional depending on your host but another fun element to add to the favorite things party is to hand out a pen and pad of paper to each of the guests and pass around an additional jar with ‘favorite prompts’ on each paper. As you pass around the jar, each person will pull a different ‘favorite prompt’ — favorite new restaurant, date night spot, online boutique, movie, book, blog, etc. It’s fun to hear everyone’s favorites and to learn about new local places and/or traditions! Again, there are no rules to this party; each host will host it differently!

I decided to throw this party during the Christmas season so the decor choice was pretty easy. While planning the party, I knew I wanted the colors to be centered around gold, mint green and dark green. I asked Kori with Peacocks and Peonies to do a few custom chalkboards for the party. I sent her a couple of ideas that I was interested in and she made the magic happen! They were so cute and such a fun addition to the party.

Moms of Tulsa Favorite Things Party 3For this party, I asked everyone to bring a bottle of wine or an appetizer to share in addition to their 3 gifts. I supplied the chicken for chicken tacos, 2 holiday cocktails, the cake, and the cookies. The cookies were decorated as Christmas trees, ornaments and large ‘favorite things 2015’ tags; those of course, were a delicious hit! As you know from previous party post, I love a good ‘naked’ cake. For this party, I choose a red-velvet ‘naked’ cake with holly berries placed on top and around the first layer. It was a beautiful cake and went perfect with the theme of the party!

I set up a bar table and supplied a holiday cranberry champagne with raspberries and rosemary for garnish. I also supplied a grapefruit vodka press and had grapefruit and lime for garnish. I grabbed a holly bouquet and set it out to help bring the holiday spirit.

There was a small photobooth set up with a custom Instagram prop and holiday props to tie in the theme! I made those adorable DIY no-sew name tags for all the guests because I knew some of the girls would be meeting one another for the first time.

If you haven’t ever been to a favorite things party – now is the time to host one for you and your friends! You don’t even need to go crazy with the decor (you could do this anytime of the year; Valentine’s Day would be fun, too!) – just set a date and make it happen, I promise it will become an annual tradition!
