With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s easy to forget to show our appreciation to service workers around town; the garbage men, the Salvation Army bell workers, the postman, etc. I am not sure about you but with Amazon Prime and other online shopping, we see our mailman a lot around the holidays. Every year I like to surprise him/her with a small treat as a token of appreciation. I not only think it’s a nice thing to do but it is also teaching my daughter that it’s kind to do unexpected things for not only friends and teachers but for people who you barely know, too.
I usually choose December or January to surprise our postman with a gift because I know how hard they work during the holidays. We recently moved into a new home and this year my daughter and I decided we would surprise our postman with a small Christmas gift. We choose a $5 Starbucks gift card, hand-warmers, a few small packages of assorted candy and a bottle of water. Right now, the weather is not as cold as it usually is but we figured he could keep the hand-warmers for a really brisk day. I picked up the hand-warmers in the ‘$1 spot’ at Target and the other things I had on hand. This small present probably cost me about $7.00 (giftcard included). It was simple and easy and I know it will help brighten those long holiday routes.
